Came to teach middle school jazz. I’m as surprised as you are, but I am glad the perspective has finally opened up enough to let me in! Also it really pays to stay as well-rounded as possible. Corrected the chord changes to Angel Eyes for some young folks reading straight from the #realbook. Talked to LOTS of young players about their tone. Sang the praises of Freddie Green. Gave a clinic where I talked mostly about Slash and Albert Lee. Trumpet player in the audience said, ‘those guitar lines sound like bebop language!’ Mission more or less accomplished. Day 1 in the can, 1 day to go. Thanks to ALL THE GUITARISTS who came to hear me speak about the TRADITION as we do it, not as jazz school does it TO us, and what that means for us as we learn how to grow into ourselves as guitarists and human beings. Nap time, jam session, then we’ll see what day 2 brings. #renojazzfestival #femaleguitarist #guitarteacher
