As the Coronavirus arrived in Los Angeles, the Industry made the difficult decision to shutter Sweet Land. After three years of development and with every performance sold out, the site-specific opera closed its run halfway through.
The cast, orchestra and crew gathered one final time on March 15 to document the performance to the best of our ability. Sweet Land went live to a streaming audience via Vimeo on March 29.
The Los Angeles times documented the final performance in their feature ‘Coronavirus Culture Shutdown‘. Reviews of the streaming version of the opera, including the New Yorker’s beautiful feature and mention of my sound art via guitar feedback, are below.
