Nine years after taking the crown the first time around, it was an honor to be asked back to compete in 2018’s NYC Shred For Your Life event, and an even greater honor to reclaim the crown almost a decade later!  The prize this time included a pretty sweet Telecaster, which will be my new travel axe after I pop in a Lollar, a Hot Rails, and upgrade the bridge.

This is one of those ‘only in New York’ events that combines a sort of skater thing with a performance art thing with a gong show thing but really delivers the goods as far as showmanship AND fun go, and this one went down in front of a packed house at Brooklyn Bazaar.  It was such a pleasure to share the stage with John Stanier (Helmet, Battles) and #BradTruax (Interpol).  Had a great time hanging with Jessica Pimentel of Orange is the New Black, talking shop with fellow guitar enthusiast Matt Sweeney and connecting with Jon Theodore, one of my favorite modern drummers in the biz.

Guitar culture is the best culture, and this week in New York my heart is full from being back in the thick of it.  Some videos and photos from the show are below.
